What Casting Directors Actually Look at in Your Profile (And What They Skip)

As a casting director, I review between 80 and 200 profiles per casting call. Here is the honest truth about what I actually look at — and what I skip entirely.

The first 5 seconds: name, headshot, category

I see your name, your primary headshot, and your category badge in the first card view. If the headshot is a selfie, too dark, or shows heavy makeup for a commercial casting, I move on. You have one image to make me click. Make it count.

The AI match score tells me your fit instantly

TalentOS shows me your match score for this specific casting before I open your profile. A score above 80 means I will open you. Below 60 means I probably will not unless I am desperate for options. The match score is calculated from your measurements, verified credits, skill tags, and media quality — not follower count.

Why measurements matter more than you think

Most brands specify exact size requirements. If your measurements are not in your profile, or worse, unverified, I cannot confirm you fit the brief. I will skip you and go to someone with verified data. Add verified measurements today.

A missing walk video costs you runway roles

For any runway or fashion show casting, I need to see you walk. If there is no walk video in your portfolio, you are not considered — regardless of how good your headshots are. This is the single most common reason strong-looking talent get passed over.

Verified credits build trust faster than anything else

Unverified credits (where you just type a brand name) carry zero weight. Verified credits — where the brand or agency has confirmed the booking — are treated as fact. Three verified credits from mid-size brands are more valuable than ten unverified big-name claims.

The three most common portfolio mistakes

First: only one headshot and nothing else. Second: all photos from the same shoot in the same outfit, which tells me nothing about your range. Third: including photos that are technically poor — blurry, badly lit, or with distracting backgrounds. Quality over quantity, always.

Key takeaway

Fix your headshot, add your walk video, get your measurements verified, and earn at least three verified credits. Do those four things and your shortlist rate will improve significantly within one month.
