State of India Talent Industry 2026 — TalentOS Annual Report

India's talent industry is at an inflection point. The convergence of verified digital platforms, AI-powered career tools, and tier-2 city talent markets is creating opportunities that did not exist three years ago. This is our second annual state of the industry report.

Market size: India modelling industry

The India modelling and talent management industry is estimated at ₹8,400 crore for 2026, growing at 18% year-on-year. This includes modelling agency revenues, pageant registration and sponsorship revenues, influencer agency fees, and talent training academy revenues. The influencer marketing segment alone accounts for approximately ₹3,200 crore — 38% of total market value.

Pageant statistics: participation and economics

Pageant participation in India has grown 34% in the last two years, driven by accessible city and state level events with lower entry barriers. The average city pageant in India now attracts 150-400 participants. Registration revenues per event range from ₹8 lakh to ₹25 lakh. Sponsorship revenue for top-tier state pageants ranges from ₹40 lakh to ₹2 crore. Digital-first pageants — where preliminary rounds are conducted virtually — have reduced organisational costs by 40-60%.

Influencer marketing spend in India

Indian brands spent an estimated ₹3,200 crore on influencer marketing in 2025, growing to a projected ₹4,100 crore in 2026. FMCG and beauty dominate spend (combined 44%), followed by fashion and lifestyle (28%), and fintech and edtech (18%). Micro-influencers (10K-100K followers) are the fastest-growing segment by deal volume, with brands increasingly preferring higher engagement rates over raw reach.

The tier-2 city talent market

Perhaps the most significant structural shift in 2026 is the emergence of tier-2 city talent markets. Jaipur, Indore, Coimbatore, Kochi, Bhopal, and Nagpur are all producing commercially significant talent that agencies in Mumbai and Delhi are actively sourcing. Platform data shows that talent from tier-2 cities have 23% higher engagement rates on average than their metro counterparts — a factor brands are beginning to value explicitly.

AI tools: impact on talent career outcomes

TalentOS platform data shows that talent actively using AI Studio tools have measurably better career outcomes. Talent using AI bio generation have 31% higher shortlist rates on their first applications compared to talent who write their own bios. Talent using AI self-tape coaching improve their callback rate by an average of 18% within 30 days. Profile scores above 80 (achievable primarily through AI Studio guidance) correlate with 2.7x more bookings per quarter.

Key takeaway

The India talent industry is professionalising rapidly. The gap between talent and agencies who use modern platforms and AI tools versus those who rely on informal networks and spreadsheets is widening every quarter.
